Sr. Project Manager/Biologist/CEQA/NEPA Specialist
Environmental Intelligence is pleased to announce that Michael Gonzales has joined EI as a Senior Project Manager/Biologist/CEQA/NEPA Specialist. Mr. Gonzales’ experience as Project Manager and biologist spans the southern California region including San Diego, Imperial, Riverside, San Bernardino, and Orange counties. He manages multiple projects involving renewable energy, transportation, educational institutions (long range development plans), commercial, residential, recreational, and natural resources. These projects require a variety of discretionary approvals such as general plans, master plans, specific plans, and amendments; major and conditional use permits; development plans and tentative subdivision maps; and Local Agency Formation Commission annexations. Mr. Gonzales is an expert in the National Environmental Policy Act (NEPA), California Environmental Quality Act (CEQA), numerous Federal, State, and local laws protecting natural resources, and storm water compliance regulations. He is effective in developing, maintaining, and leveraging positive relationships between clients, agencies, non-governmental organizations, community members, and other vested parties to ensure legally-defensible products. Mr. Gonzales manages, prepares and peer-reviews a variety of environmental documents, including but not limited to: NEPA Documents, CEQA Documents, Biological Studies, Natural Community Conservation Planning (NCCP) Compliance, and Permitting. Jeremy Smith
Project Manager/Biologist/Restoration Specialist
Mr. Smith has ten years of environmental consulting experience in habitat restoration, botanical surveys, and construction and biological compliance monitoring. He has a diverse background in wildlife biology, botany and plant ecology, conducting wildlife surveys, rare plant surveys, weed surveys and vegetation mapping throughout central and southern California. Mr. Smith’s work has spanned many counties, including Kern, San Luis Obispo, Los Angeles, San Bernardino, Orange, and San Diego counties. His experience includes work in a variety of habitats, including coastal sage scrub, chaparral, desert, marine, and riparian communities.
Mr. Smith has conducted protocol level wildlife surveys and focused sensitive plant surveys for federally and state-listed endangered and/or threatened species, and California Species of Special Concern. He is knowledgeable in field identification of Southern California biota with emphasis in native plant species. His strengths include conducting regulatory compliance, reconnaissance-level and focused biological surveys, habitat restoration strategies and long-term monitoring, and construction mitigation monitoring.
