Hazardous Tree Removal Project
Location: Multiple Counties and National Forests
Client: Southern California Edison
Contract Amount: $10.5 Million
Time Period: Current
The extended drought in California has increased the mortality of trees that occur within utility right-of-ways putting critical infrastructure at risk on both private and public lands. The Hazardous Tree Removal Project (HTRP) focuses on removal of dead, dying, and hazardous trees from the transmission corridors throughout SCE’s service territory within and adjacent to the Angeles, Inyo, Los Padres, San Bernardino, Sequoia, and Sierra National Forest. Since early 2014, EI has managed the HTRP day-today environmental operations and conducted preconstruction surveys, focused special-status species surveys and habitat assessments, biological monitoring and reporting, GIS modeling and analyses, and agency consultation. Further, EI has implemented consistent activity tracking and sensitive resource reporting using our value-added Environmental Compliance Portal providing SCE with real-time QAQC, operational efficiencies and cost-savings.
“David Levine and his team at EI have provided ecological consulting services to Chevron’s team since 1990. EI has provided creative solutions to ecological problems that protect and enhance sensitive biological resources. Their coordination with the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service and habitat restoration efforts have helped Chevron to implement a precedent setting project that balanced residential and oil production uses with protection of federal endangered species. EI is a trusted advisor and will remain a long-term associate.”
